How Does it work
The Affirm Anti-Aging Work Station is a complete skin rejuvenation system that incorporates Multiplex technology with Combined Apex Pulse (CAP) technology. CAP is a specialized lens that redistributes laser energy into varied levels of heat intensities to simultaneously stimulate and remodel collagen
Multiplex technology enables the sequential emission of both 1320nm and 1440nm wavelengths through one delivery fiber to simultaneously treat shallow and deep tissue in one session rather than two separate treatments. The 1320 wavelength targets deep layers of collagen structure to improve skin laxity and tightening. The 1440 wavelength targets superficial layers of photo damaged skin.
Multiplex with CAP uses both micro rejuvenation and thermal mechanisms to achieve the desired benefit. When skin is treated with the Affirm, the result is a pattern of coagulated tissue columns surrounded by uncoagulated tissue. The coagulated columns are produced by high fluence apexes while the uncoagulated columns are produced by lower background fluences. The entire treated area is heated, but the coagulated columns are heated more and the uncoagulated columns are heated less.
The heated tissue within these columns starts a natural healing process that stimulates new healthy tissue - fibroblasts. This, in turn, stimulates and effectively produces the formation of new collagen with minimal adverse effects or down time. The skin has a tighter, fresher, more youthful tone and texture with fewer lines and wrinkles, sunspots, and acne scars.
  The Cynosure Affirm Anti-Aging Work Station targets all layers - shallow and deep - of photo damaged and aged skin. It is a non-ablative, fractional laser that reduces wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, and keloids. It shrinks pore size and is one of the best treatments available for acne scarring. The Affirm offers pigment and redness reduction, age spot treatments, and facial rejuvenation. It causes the coagulation of deep tissue resulting in tighter, smoother and younger looking skin.

 Protecting The Skin
During the procedure the skin is protected by the Cynosure Smart Cool. This machine provides a continuous flow of ice cold air over the skin before and during the laser treatment. It is attached to the laser through a special hose and protects the skin and tissue during the laser passes. After treatment, the skin is cooled for five to ten minutes with air cooling and the application of cold compresses and or ice packs.
Following treatment, an aloe gel or a moisturizer is applied to soothe and moisturize the skin. Patients are told to apply a moisturizer two times a day until the redness disappears. |
Side Effects
Treatment with the Affirm laser is non-ablative with minimal post treatment care and no down time. Patients may return to normal activities after treatment.
Immediately following treatment, patients may experience mild discomfort due to tissue heating, redness and swelling. This usually resolves within 24 hours. The skin may feel flushed and warm, like a sunburn.
Applying a moisturizer twice a day while redness is present is necessary. Do not use ointments containing petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, as they cause the retention of heat.
Throughout the course of treatment, treated skin is sensitive to sunlight. Patients should use sunblock daily before, during, and after treatment for the best possible outcome. Tanned skin cannot be treated until the tan has faded. Patients must refrain from using Retin A products during the course of treatment.
Results
The results of the Affrrm Fractional Laser treatments include deep tissue tightening, reduction or elimination of fine to moderate lines and wrinkles, and pore size shrinkage. The skin will show improvement in texture and tone, have a healthier appearance as well as a youthful, smoother look. In addition, the Affirm can reduce scars and keloids. It is very successful in treating and improving acne scars and stretch marks. Skin laxity on the neck, abdomen, arms, as well as other areas, also show dramatic improvement.
To achieve the best results 4 to 6 treatments are necessary. Treatments should be done at 2 to 3 week intervals. Every 6 months to a year a maintenance treatment should be considered.
